The setting looks a bit like this
The last book is set in a valley high in a Northern Irish mountain range. In the valley is a lake with a village by its shore. The village is the opposite of Ballydog. Their community is a utopia, everyone is sweetness and light. The citizens are all blessed with long and contented lives. But they have a secret, revealed early in the plot. The lake is home to a monster.
Here are some titles I like, although not quite enough:
Last Days of LegendYou could build on any of the above or be original. No suggestion too crazy. There’s a prize for the winner. Not sure what yet.
Trial by Water
The Last Days of Lough Linger
Dark Water
Monster Rise
Human Soup

Just though of another - if it is supposed to be the opposite of Ballydog, why not call it 'Ballycat'?!
ReplyDeleteCathryn
Better still - 'The Goodness of Ballycat'
ReplyDeleteBoth previous titles have 'dog', do you want to continue with that? How about 'Under Dog'.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that came to me though, was 'Below'.
Good Luck!

Thank you for those. They are great food for thought. Keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteNow I will address a few of the issues raised above and in emails I have received.
The name of the village, the lake and the valley will be the same. For a while I was calling it Lough Linger, then Lough Legend. As you can tell I like the alliterative use of ‘L.’ But I have no set name yet and the name of the setting could be changed to suit a good title.
I don’t envisage the word ‘Dog’ being in the title, nor the name of the setting involving ‘Bally …’ The word ‘Lough’ can’t be the in title either, that won’t fly with the publishers unfortunately.
Thank you, let's hear more.
